Fashion- beyond the globe

Before the blog- word bank

Suffix "kei" - if you are new to Japanese Fashion, you must be very confused by the word "Kei". Kei in Japanese means styles or groups. You can replace the word kei with fashion, eg: Decora fashion ( Decora Kei )
Harajuku - Harajuku is an area in Japan, known for different types of fashion styles and lots of colours! The name Harajuku has persisted due to the earlier naming of the nearby JR East Harajuku Station.

Wrapping up the last blog

In the last blog, we learned the "generals" of decora fashion, harajuku fashion. We also exemplified alot of features of decora-kei and its orgins. Then we proved that/debunked the recent talk of "The death of Harajuku" is all fake news, as all styles change and that not all styles will stay the same, especially because of the fact that Harajuku fashion has now spread to multiple medias all over the world.

Now moving onto the main topic of this blog-

How has Decora-kei changed Harajuku fashion?

Because we will never excatly know the orgins of Decora-kei it will be hard to pinpoint excatly how it changed and/or influenced the Harajuku fashion scene, although multiple assumptions can be made on the topic. As far as we know, decora-kei was exemplified by singer Kyaryu Pamyu during the late 90's and early 2000s and has been seen in a lot of Fruits Magazine street-snaps ageing back to the late 1990's-
In 1997 the first issue of FRUiTS was published. Cover model, Aki Kobayashi, wrote articles about her style & her own hand crafted accessories.

We can see that after these two major events in Harajuku fashion the style of Decora started to become more popular, specifically among teenagers.
